University of Siena opens applications for PhD of National Interest in pandemic preparedness

The University of Siena has published the call for applications for the 42nd cycle of the PhD of National Interest in “Innovation in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infections at epidemic-pandemic risk”.
The programme offers 30 positions and is designed to train researchers working across key areas of pandemic preparedness, including innovative vaccine technologies, diagnostics, antimicrobial strategies, immune response biomarkers, drug delivery systems and mathematical modelling.
Within this framework, 17 positions are co-funded by HADEA, on behalf of the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, DG HERA, under the European Vaccines Hub for Pandemic Readiness project.
The PhD reflects the multidisciplinary approach needed to strengthen preparedness and response capacities against epidemic and pandemic threats, supporting advanced research at the intersection of vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics and public health.
Applications are open until 3 August 2026, 14:00 CEST.
