EVH Steering Committee Meeting at Institut Pasteur in Paris, France

The European Vaccines Hub (EVH) convened its Steering Committee Meeting to advance Vaccine Readiness across Europe at the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, on 1-2 September 2025. Over two days of strategic dialogue and collaboration, the Steering Committee:

  • Evaluated EVH’s strategic priorities.
  • Reviewed progress across EVH work packages.
  • Aligned on actionable steps to strengthen Europe’s vaccine ecosystem.

This meeting reaffirmed EVH’s commitment to advancing vaccine innovation and ensuring a robust, collaborative response to future health emergencies.

Key highlights
The meeting opened with a strategic overview by Wolfgang Philipp (HERA), who outlined EVH’s role within the broader context of EU health security and preparedness.

Central discussions focused on:

  • EVH Vaccine Readiness Plan
A comprehensive roadmap aimed at reinforcing the EU’s capacity to address future epidemics and pandemics. The plan emphasises the development of public health–relevant prototype vaccines, scalable technologies, and the rapid deployment of safe and effective medical countermeasures.
  • Public–Private Partnerships
Participants examined ongoing initiatives to accelerate vaccine development and ensure equitable access. Engagement with European industry stakeholders and international Partners continues to drive innovation, address capability gaps, and support rapid large-scale manufacturing during health crises.

Presentations across EVH’s four Pillars:

  • Pillar 1: Discovery – Led by Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena (Italy)
  • Pillar 2: Preclinical Studies – Led by Institut Pasteur (France)
  • Pillar 3: Clinical Studies – Led by Vaccinopolis, University of Antwerp (Belgium)
  • Pillar 4: Regulatory & Manufacturing – Led by German Center for Infection Research - DZIF and Center for Pandemic Vaccines and Therapeutics - ZEPAI (Germany)

The meeting also featured exchanges with representatives from the Pasteur Network, Durable Project, Be Ready, and France Vaccins initiatives, reinforcing cross-initiative collaborations.

On the second day, Yasmine Belkaid, President of Institut Pasteur, chaired the session and delivered a synthesis of EVH’s progress. Her intervention underscored the critical role of scientific excellence, interdisciplinary cooperation, and inclusive leadership in achieving sustainable vaccine readiness across Europe.

The Steering Committee Meeting demonstrated the value of coordinated cross-sector collaboration in public health. It marked an important step forward in EVH’s mission to promote scientific excellence, foster cross-border collaboration, and ensure that Europe is equipped to respond effectively to future health emergencies.
